Meet Dr. Evan S. Gold, DMD, MD

“My first exposure to the specialty of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery came after being injured while playing sports as a teenager.  I remember being so fascinated with the surgeon who treated me and the care I received, that I decided at that moment I wanted to become a surgeon.”

Born and raised in  Staten Island, a borough of New York City, Dr. Gold completed his undergraduate studies at Stonybrook University.  He then attended The University of Pennsylvania where he obtained his doctor of dental medicine degree.  Dr. Gold is a California licensed physician as well, completing his MD degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.   While in Cleveland, Dr. Gold also completed an internship in general surgery and combined residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery.    He also studied abroad at the prestigious Royal Melbourne Hospital and Childrens Hospital in Melbourne, Australia gaining valuable experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Dr. Evan Gold is board certified in oral and maxillofacial surgery.  Dr. Gold is on staff at Scripps Encinitas Hospital.  He belongs to numerous professional organizations including the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, California Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental and Medical Associations, American Society of Dental Anesthesiology, San Diego County Dental Society, and Academy of Osseointegration.  He is also a guest faculty member with American Board of Aesthetic Medicine.  He has authored numerous journal articles and has lectured to dentists and other professional groups.

Dr. Gold performs a variety of procedures from extraction of nonrestoreable and wisdom teeth, dental implant placement and bone grafting procedures, oral pathology, facial injury and jaw deformities.  Dr. Gold performs his own in-office general anesthesia, for which he received training in a hosital setting similar to an anesthesiologist and holds a general anesthesia permit from the Dental Board of California.  He is well trained in treating all age groups of patients, pediatric as young as 5 to geriatric patients .

The surgical staff are fully trained oral and maxillofacial surgery assistants.  They assist with the administration of intravenous sedation and surgery as well as help to continuously monitor the patient during and after surgery.  All staff members are CPR trained, as well.

Patient comfort and safety are important to Dr. Gold and his staff.  The state-of-the-art facility is equipped with it’s own ICAT Cone Beam scanner allowing immediate diagnosis and computer guided surgery for improved outcomes and decreased surgical procedure time.  Digital xrays, soft tissue laser, and Piezotome ultrasonic surgical unit which allows precision and safety by selectively cutting hard tissues such as bone while preserving other vital structures such as nerve and blood vessels.

It is important to Dr. Gold and staff to make every effort to accommodate patients and keep their experience as comfortable and relaxing as possible.  Early morning and same day emergency appointments are available.  Communication with referring doctors is very important to Dr. Gold.   Anytime treatment is rendered the doctor is informed.  We value the relationships with the doctors we work with.

As someone accustomed to living in a colder climate, San Diego North County has been a welcomed change.  After spending several winters in Cleveland during residency, Dr. Gold and his family decided they wanted to move to a warmer climate.  Dr. Gold has been practicing in  San Diego County since 2003.  He has had the opportunity to experience several different practice settings throughout North County San Diego which has helped to formulate and shape his own private practice. Dr. Gold not only practices in Carlsbad, but is also a resident, living in the area for the past six years.  Many patients are referred from Encinitas, Cardiff, Solana Beach, Del Mar, San Marcos, Vista, Oceanside and Rancho Santa Fe. He is active in his community and supports many local charitable organizations.  In his spare time, Dr. Gold enjoys spending time with his family, is an avid golfer, and aspiring drummer.
